Ok so, one of my friends showed me that she received in the mail a chain letter saying to send $6 to six people, that means $1 to each. Then it says to remove the person on top and to put yours a t the buttom. Is this legal? they letter says it's legal when you send the $1 with a note: please add me to your mailing list. That note is what makes it legal. It also says...see title 18 sec. 1302 & 1304 of u.s postal and lottery laws. Please, if you know it works and not or if its legal or not.....please let us know!!!!

Oh, well if the scam artists tell you it's legal then it must be legal.

It is a pyramid scheme and it is not legal. You can be prosecuted for participating. Letters such as that one should be given to your local postal inspector.

Don't expect to make money off of these schemes. If you do the math you will see why. The scheme requires 6 people when it first starts out. Then you need 36 people for those 6 to make money. Then you need 216 for those 36 to make money. By the 7th level you are at over 1.6 million people. By the 11th level you need over 2.11 billion people to participate. Unless you get in at the beginning it is mathematically impossible for you to make the big bucks promised by the chain letter.

Ponzi scheme. It's only legal when the government does it.

Chain letters are illegal no matter what. It is considered a form of gambling and is not allowed.
