Question:
How should I present to my judge that I want informal probation (from formal) due to travel plans abroad and driving issues?

Ive been on formal probation succesfully now for 1 year and have completed all requirements. Im sentenced to 3 years probation and a 3 year license suspension for a DUI.

Id like to travel abroad for about a year or longer, so I need to be on informal probation to do that.

I plan on telling the judge that im just having issues making it in to see my probation officer with no drivers license and cannot afford a hardship license.

I do not want to tell him about my travel plans in fear that he will think traveling is not a good decision, but I also dont want him to put any restrictions on travel in my terms of probation if he does grant me informal.
I do plan on making it an educational trip, but not the entire time and its a choice not a work or school requirement

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Lol, nope, not gonna happen. You're not travelling abroad until your probation is over.

Even if you got informal probation you can't travel without permission from your po, not even out of state. He is not going to approve for you to leave country.

Besides, if you could afford to travel abroad, you can afford your hardship license, or a taxi/public transportation

Number one, you aren't traveling anywhere without your P.O.'s permission. If you do, you will violate. And you'll be in jail. Number two, the judge won't give a s--- how hard it is to see your P.O. Your feet work, right ? You've only done a year, of a three year probation. You are not going to get released from your probation after only one year. No way, no how.

They have an amazing thing called "bus service" and you need to use it to make all your appts. with your P.O. Every time you miss one, it's a violation and you've done that to yourself. No judge will buy into the "I'm a victim of no D.L. story."

He'll probably continue the formal longer until you are responsible enough to make the P.O. appts. so travel anywhere is out. Lesson learned and if not, then you may end up having the entire 3 yrs. on formal. Welcome to the world of adults.

So you don't want to complete your punishment because you want to do things and it's making it hard for you to do the things you want, because it is afterall a punishment and you think that Lying to a judge is the way to handle it?

I hope you get denied.

So you want to lie to the judge. That's always an awesome idea, good luck.

It is best to wait till it is all over.

Where do you plan on travelling to, who are you going with, and what program.
