Question:
I've been falsely accused of rape, now this girl is spreading slander about me everywhere I go. What can I do?

A few weeks ago I had an incident in my dorm with a psycho girl who falsely accused me of rape after I broke up with her. She called the police, and they are still investigating. They gave us both strict orders not to talk about it with ANYONE and not to contact each other. I have honored these orders, yet she has called me, facebook messaged me, her family has harassed me, and she is now telling everyone in my dorm that I raped her. So now nobody in this college talks to me anymore now and they all think I'm a rapist. I lost my job over this (they can't employ someone with this kind of investigation going on I guess), and my life is turning upside down. The police ruled that there was no sign of rape and that there was in fact evidence to support the claim that she made the whole thing up (I gave the police an angry voicemail she left me, demanding that I open my door or she was going to make my life a "living hell" and that we were going to see "who's going to win" ).

I finally got someone to agree to testify that she has been spreading these lies about me all over school, and I'm about to call the police. Can I press charges? What can I do? Everyone just assumes that since she's a woman she's telling the truth, but she's NOT. I never did this awful thing and yet its destroying my life.

This has nothing to do with the police now, they apparently completed their criminal investigation, vindicated you and sent the info over to those that can now investigate her.

If you are still receiving threats etc via Facebook, email etc, print them and consider a protective order against both she and her family.

You may or may not have grounds for a suit, but it would be difficult to prove and expensive to win.

At best, you could contact an attorney and have him send a letter that suggests that you have grounds for a suit, however you would be willing to forego the suit if you were to get a written apology for the lise/exaggerations, and a promise that they will stop.

Yea, find a good lawyer, tell him he is paid when the lawsuit is over, and go go go to the bank on her. Slander is a civil matter, so the police wont do anything, I believe. Civil = money, Criminal = jail.

Get a lawyer to subpoena her to a hearing and watch her mouth shut.

The truth will always come out. Just keep all the evidence of her harrassment, and keep reporting it to the police.

Press charges for slander, libel, defamation of character, harrassment, etc. and sue her for compensation (defamation of character, emotional distress, loss of earnings etc).
