In a recent memo updating concerning the A(H1N1) flu situation, the regional medical agency (who creates policies and applies them to our territory) wrote :
'' Health care workers who refuse to get the A(H1N1) flu vaccine will face consequences, such as being suspended without pay, at the employer's discretion''
They are the official source of info, and generally reliable, but there have been past occasions where they ''tweaked'' the truth trying to intimidate us (usually when the union was negociating our contracts).
I thought that an individual always has the right to auto-determination, choosing the care they receiving, if this person is not disoriented and understands the effects of refusing. But can an outside source ie employer, really bully you for a personal choice ?I think the question of which has priority; individual rights or collective rights was mostly ethical. What about legally ?
(If it helps, I'm in Canada)
