Question:
Is it morally wrong?

I had a great cd collection, all bought cd's, and we had our home robbed. I went and bought (slowly but surely) all my favorites again and a few years later I had my beloved car stolen with all my cd's in it. I know it is legally wrong but do you think it would be morally wrong for me to burn and download these songs and cd's that I have already legitimately paid for already? And what do you think the artists would think?

If you've paid for them twice over, that's two more times than most people :D

If you do decide to download them, newsgroups are the best source for music. If you buy them again, back up your collection by copying them into your computer.

I don't think it is morally wrong because if you think about it, you paid for those CDS twice so I don't think the artist's will mine. Especially if you E-Mailed them the whole story. I think you'll be fine unless the artist is greedy.

"Morally" is a religious term - you want "ethically" instead.

And, yes, it would be ethically wrong.

Your insurance should have paid for your 2 break-ins, so you're not out any money.

Recording artists depend on the revenue from CD sales to eat - THEY didn't steal your CD's, so why make them pay for replacing them?

Buy a new set and be more careful with these.

Download everything. Even if you didn't pay for them. However, since you did it's certainly not 'morally' wrong :)

I'm sorry you have been so unlucky. I do feel that it is still theft and if you have to ask the question, you really probably agree with me.
