On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body."
On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness."
On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only."
On a child's superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly."

onto labels...

Litigation got out of control a long time ago. How would anyone control it in a free country? Fall and break a leg in your friends yard and you probably have to sue your friend to get money from their insurance company. Some people would become enemies over this. Others would say, that's what you have to do.

The most talked about case, when a woman sued McDonalds for being scalded by coffee, would fill 1,000 words, but I would give examples of other absurd cases and maybe call a local newspaper to see if there have been local stories or for a reporters comments about the subject. If you look at my source, (I searched mcdonalds hot coffee case) please note almost every site I looked at had something different to say. Which account is accurate? The story isn't an urban myth but some of the stories about the story are.

I recall the woman who sued Mc Donalds about 5 yrs a go or so for spilling her coffee on herself and getting burned, claiming the coffee was too hot. Hense, the warning lables stating "contents can be extremely hot" on a friggin coffee cup.

Uh...ya think??

Try to see if you can use personal anecdotes from your own experiences with labels or lack of, and interview others.

Readers always like to read stories about others to get into an article.
