Long story short, I got a fix it ticket on July 3rd for no front license plate and I had no idea my tags were 2008 in stead of 2009, however the registration was current. The officer told me that if I fixed everything in 30 days I would be fine. My registration for the year was up at the end of July so I waited untill the end of the month to pay it since that alone was $750. When my husband went to DMV to pay, they told him they do not give out tags unless it's past the due date and the only other way would be to drop it off in one of there drop boxes. It ended up taking 2 weeks for them to cash my check and another 2 weeks to recieve my tags in the mail. The lady at the DMV wrote me a receipt saying tags were current and showing that i just paid. When I went to have the ticket signed off the officer wouldn't sign off on it b/c he said it phyically has to be on the car but he was able to sign off on the front plate. So I ended up waiting a whole month for the tags in the mail and a week later I get a letter in the mail saying I have to pay $750 or my license would be suspended. So I go to walk in court to show and tell the judge what had happened and after I get down explaining myself he says " that's not my problem" I asked to get the fine reduced and he ended up with $350 reduced fine. Feeling upset I asked him if that's the best I could get for a fix it ticket given my situation, he then says "this is not a flee market you can't wheel and deal. I offered to show him the reciete I got from DMV and he wouldn't even look at it. I ended up getting irratated and said that this whole thing doesn't feel fair and he says " well you signed your ticket" at that point I just gave up. Walked out having to pay $350 for a front plate I did fix but couldn't send in cuz it was incomplete and for not having a sticker on my car. I feel like I got screwed. Does this sound right or is it somehow my fault? Is there anything I can do to change the outcome of his ruling? Thanks for taking the time to read!
