PayPal recently experienced a system error when investigating your claim
of unauthorized activity. You received a provisional credit from PayPal
while your claim was being investigated. During that time the original
transaction was also recovered. The provisional credit was not debited
from your account, resulting in a duplicate credit. Please review your
account history from July 17, 2007, to view this issue.

To correct the error, PayPal will be debiting $XX.XX from your PayPal
account, which represents the amount in excess that you received from
the investigation of your unauthorized claim. The funds will be
returned back to PayPal.

Over 5 months ago this happend, the money was given to me, i sent many emails saying it was not my money, I spent it and now they want it back finally relizing the error. I do not have the funds anymore! The account was closed on top of this...what do I do? do i have a right to the money? let them just sue me?

Honestly I'd just ignore it.. even though that may not be the wisest thing to do.

It's their fault, so let them suffer.

You have encountered a rare issue. However you may not have to pay the money back. Let me give you the worst case scenario first.

Paypal will throw your paypal account into negative. They do not automatically debit financial information. You would have to initiate this first. If not paid they could send you to collections.

Ok normally paypal doesn't make mistakes like this. Second off if it was over an elapsed time period they would normally just bite the bullet depending on the size of the transaction. I would call and ask to speak with a supervisor regarding the credit you received 5 months ago. It may takes some time to get one but it is in your best interest. I would argue the fact that you were given directly from paypal which you were under the impression that the issue was resolved. Five months later I am being told to pay money back which was granted to me by paypal originally.

The money wasn't yours to begin with. So why did you spend it? Your notification of the company on their error proves you knew the money wasn't yours. It would have been just as easy to let the money sit there until they realized their error. You spent money that wasn't yours, and now they want it back.

I guess you need to look at it this way: If paypal charged you twice for something, and you didn't realize it until a few months later, and you could prove that they did it, you would want them to pay you back for it, right? Same thing, only in reverse.

Sorry. . .

When the mystery money appeared why didn't you contact paypal at that time?

And why the XX.XX in place of the actual amount?

It is not like we can identify you...

I suspect you thought you had a bit of a windfall and you took advantage of it.

guess you gonna have to pay them back.

It's their money. You sent many emails pointing this out. They have a right to it. What makes you think that you can steal it now with impunity?

They don't need to sue you. They can charge you with a crime, and uniformed officers will come to your door and arrest you.

You better pay the money back - FAST.

You have already said you knew it wasn't your money, but you spent it anyway. Sorry, but you now owe it to them.
