Who can I reach out to who might help after having a federal job offer rescinded?

I recently was extended a job with United States Dept of Labor. After completing the DECLARATION 306 and 2 days before I was do to start, I received a call saying my offer was being rescinded due to a federal that I disclosed. The debt was due to an overpaymnet for The Social Security Administration. They openly acknowledged that the error was made on their part and although I wrote a detailed explanation as to how that debt occurred. The job offer was still rescinded. Is there any one that I may be able to reach out to in congress or any place else to possible get help with this. I've been unemployed since March 2010 and was clearly devasted about this event. I undertand life isn't fair, but I shouldn't be made to suffer for someone elses error. Especially, when I am paying on the debt in the wake of losing my job and barely keeping my home.

They can rescind the offer for any reason they want. You had yet to start work and were not officially hired, so you weren't even protected by whatever the department policy was.

I am sorry to hear that your life is in such shambles, but there is no legal action that you can take here.

Even if it was their fault, you can still be blamed. You could of told them they over paid you. They didnt hire you because if the mishap. The didnt hire you because in their eyes you arnt trust worthy (you might be).

Nope, they can do that. Congress has more important things to deal with than how fair you think life should be.

No laws says they have to hire you. Keep looking for a job.

A lawyer. I'd go to one and say, take half if you win.
