Why can't a felon vote?

Question

If they work and pay taxes, they should be allowed to vote, period! Any American citizen who pays taxes to good ol' Uncle Sam should have the right to vote, they did their time and are now a part of society again, they have a right to help chose politicians and laws as much as I do. Who agrees with me?

I thought they could vote once they are off probation or parole for the offense?

They let a felon work and pay taxes for survival. I never have broke the law because I know that I will lose lots of my rights in Society. When I was in school in the 50's and 60's, they taught all of us those things. I don't think the schools or a lot of parents now days tell the kids what they would lose.

I agree. My boyfriend is a felon, and he's changed his life, he makes good decisions and he even got his parole dropped a year and a half early. he is a hard working American that pays taxes and its not fair that he cant vote. Not that any of our votes count anyway. These politicians have every thing rigged. They already know who's gonna be picked anyway. They just let us vote to make us feel like we have a say in things but we really don't.

I do agree with you on what you typed.... but i am sure you have heard this a million times .... In the eyes of the law you are capable of repeating the crime and there for once if enough for them .... it is the old saying screw me once shame on you ....screw me twice shame on me ....but the third time will need pass me by.... so you do a bad thing .... in quote you have no right under the law.... so you work and you pay and you don't vote and you don't join uncle Sam in the war.... sad yes but and i know you have heard it a million times you do the crime you do the time .... even if you are not in jail any longer.... now you become the example .... yes it is a sorry way to think of it but that is how it goes ....

The theory is that if a felon could vote, a felon could also run for public office. So with that, if there were enough felons in a specific locality, a felon could much easily be elected to office. You wouldn't want Charles Manson for a president, would you?

Because he is a felon, it is the law and I agree with it.



They should be able to live and work but they fortified their right to vote when they robed the 7-11 or when they got in the bar fight.

in the state of ohio you can vote as long as youre not in jail and off of probation, i think!!! but in the state of ohio a convicted felon can vote, however there are some guidelines that im obviously not clear on. good luck
