Which is the best Identity Theft Protection I can get? Identity Theft Protection that really works?

What is the best identity theft protection I can get? My car was stolen while I was at work and although I reported it straight away and cancelled my cards and cellphone, the thief was still able to run up several thousand dollars worth of debt in my name. It's taken me nearly 8 months to deal with the mess and I want to make sure I have the best identity theft protection available so this never happens again.

ok, you want to go to http://IdentityTheftGuard.net . They are run by Experian, who are one of the big names in finance and won't rip you off. Registering with them gave me huge peace of mind, they stopped attempted fraud on my credit card instantly and alerted me to unusual activity that would have cost me $3000 if it had gone unnoticed. They offer the best identity theft protection on the market.

They've already proven those identity protection places to be breachable or maybe even downright scams. No one can one hundred percent prevent theft and fraud. Each vender should have done the right thing and verified the identity of that person pretending to be you. When they did the wrong thing they made it possible for this person to get away with it. I don't know what kind of scam they ran...getting a credit card, or using yours. But they shouldn't have been able to do that. The whole point of Id and SSN and all that was meant to avoid identity confusion and account fraud. It's an infringement on privacy rights and a ridiculous expense. And now they aren't being used to your advantage. All the things people claim will protect you will only protect you if everyone involved does the right things. So maybe you should find out how and work to fight this sort of thing. Your prevention may have it's answer there as well.

Identity theft protection doesn't work. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to protect yourself against identity theft.

You should pull your credit report once every few years. That's where it's most likely to show up.

Go with IdentityGuard.com. http://www.goidentityguard.com. It's not going to 100% stop you from becoming an identity theft victim, but none of these services can promise that. However it has some of the best features of all of the monitoring services, plus it's reasonably priced. Oh and you can give it a try for 30 days.
