Question:
Why do employers ask for your transcript when you apply for faculty positions, but not other positions?

Seems like when you apply to teach in a college,
they want you to present your official transcript.

but when you apply to work in a regular job..........(even a job that happens to be within a college).......
they don't care about your transcript.
They just take your word for it; they assume you graduated.

Why do they verify your education in faculty positions, but not other positions?

Having been both in private industry and academia, I can say that in private industry specific courses and grades are usually not relevant to a position once you have some industry experience; they think you know what you need to.They usually verify all degrees though.

In academia they want to see what courses you took as well as how you did because it is a valid comparison for a teacher or researcher and relevant to your preparation to teach in a subject area.

Interestingly, I also was an electronic technician/field engineer in industry. I found everyone wanted to give me a formal or (most often) informal test to see if I knew my stuff. Even after ten years. But as soon as having taught electrical engineering courses wnet on my resume they stopped asking and just assumed I knew it.

That is not true, if a person resume only shows college education without experience, an HR person can/will look at how well you performed educationally, since you have no experience in the field.

Later on in life, when you have shown plenty of experience, they do not care about the actual grades.

the implicit assumption is that your transcript will show if you have really mastered the academic material that the position requires you to teach. of course, it says nothing about how good you will be as a teacher, but then since there is almost no way to determine that short of actual observation, it isn't asked for in background material.

and, the universities my wife worked for checked all claims of education for all positions, including janitor.
