Alcohol kills over 75.000 people a year in the united states alone, Weed on the other hand is nearly impossible to OD on, there have been 0 recorded death by OD with weed, The only recorded death are when someone went driving while under influence or was too stoned to realize the light was red, Yet alcohol is still legal and weed not, In the netherlands weed is legal and everyone can get it, Yet never its on the news here that someone died of weed, Its always drunk driving or heroin and other drugs. So why is alcohol still so legal?

Alcohol is popular among all demographics. Marijuana is popular among only certain demographics, so bashing marijuana and those demographics is useful in pandering to those who oppose marijuana and those demographics. The "lazy, hippie stoner who collects welfare while living in his mother's basement" is too useful of a stereotype to let go.

To many politicians are making money under the table on Marijuana for the Federal government to make it legal.

Alcohol was made illegal at one time in this country and by doing that created a dangerous black market that was controlled by organized crime and violence, the same way Marijuana is today.

When will our Government learn that you cannot make laws to try and make man moral?

Join NORML and help educate the people about the health benefits of Marijuana.

Join LEAP to support Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

Education is the key but you will still have pea brain people out there who seriously believe that Satan himself planted Marijuana.

Alcohol and Tobacco both have adverse health effects that MMJ doesn't.

There are a lot of US laws that are not made for to protect your health but to protect commercial interests. And some of these commercial interests don't really give the government any kickbacks, it all goes into the deep pockets of individual senators and governors with out a cent going to the federal government.

I'm in WA, we've legalized it as much as we can without actually legalizing it. ei it's legal to possess but illegal to grow, buy & sell. so I ask you, how legal is that?

As to NL, they are legally only allowed to sell to their own citizen, it's an attempt to limit drug tourism and it's the only nation wide legal model in the world. That won't work for 'Mericans who want to be the best at everything, we are going to have to write up our own laws without making it look like we copied another "lesser" country.

In Scotland wisky is a huge part of out export, so making it illegal would cause a huge lose in money for the government.

Weed is seen as a drug, end off.

Oh and it's only legal is Amsterdam and is sold only in cafes

Because the laws aren't based on public health standards.

In the 1930s William Randolph Hearst controlled most newspapers in the US. He was also buying paper mills to supply his newspapers. But after he bought the paper mills, a new technology came along which could produce cheaper paper from hemp.

Hearst didn't want to waste his investment, so he used his influence to lobby Congress and make hemp illegal.

The rest is history

Alcohol was once illegal, but when it was, no one obeyed by it. They made it legal because no one acknowledged the law. No one. People shouldn't abuse alcohol. Dont brake the law man. Dont do weed, its against the law for some reason, so obey by it.

Be a patriot.

Because anyone can grow marijuana. Making alcohol illegal would have huge implications for the world economy.

Weed will probably be legal soon, would help us pay the debt.

I always said, George Bush will be responsible for America legalizing marijuana. Thanks for the unpaid wars bud.
