Recently I got my car back out of the shop I m 18 going on 19 I live wIt s my grandma and mom but aside from living at the house they don t support me finically meaning I have my own car it s only in my name and I pay for the insurance myself not on anyone s plan. I have to buy everything for myself. So does my mom have the right to take away my keys to my car to make me not drive. She is not giving my keys back to me and cops were called. But they said it is a civil issue and they cannot make her give my keys back to me. Other then getting a locksmith what else can I do. The plan is to get my keys put all my stuff in the car (already packed up ready to go ) and take off I gave her a choice before I called the police to where she gives me my keys we are cool and if she wants to know my location what ever. The second choice was that the police are going to be called I in going to get my keys and she will never see me again and of course she chose the police and because they didn't do anything I had to stay her and the abuse is getting worse so the question is what else can I do inoder to get my keys one way or another so that way I. Can leave and finally be on my own.
Also I live in Texas

You can sue herin small claims court for the keys, or simply get a new lock on the car, then you can go anywhere you want to.

No, she cannot take your car. It is a civil issue. Wait until she leaves, find the keys, leave. Or hire someone to make a new key.

Take something important to her.... forcibly take her wedding ring. Then trade. Tell her she has an hour before you smash her ring with a hammer.

Get creative, what does she care about that is irreplaceable?

She has no right to your keys but there is nothing you can do about it. Get a key made. Keep in mind cops will laugh at you for things like this.. if it's not a crime don't call them. Good luck!

Your an adult at 18. You should always have spare copies of keys. Have a locksmith make a key(s), and send her the bill.

You were clear in that the car is only in your name (no co signers) and that she stole your keys? Did she admit to taking them to the police? That's not a civil issue, the police should have intervened.
