Question:
What are the legal issues with sampling songs on a youtube video?

I'm considering making a top 10 list of my favorite songs but I don't know how to legally sample the songs. I don't intend to play the entire songs, mind you, nor do I intend to monetize the video. But even that can be tricky. Would this be considered under the fair use law? Or what? How should I go about this?

Stay under 50 seconds for each song and you should be fine.

The minute anyone objects, you remove your video.

There is no such thing as a way to "legally sample songs." There s no "fair use" which allows you to just use another's work when they object.

As long as you are the only person who sees and hears the video, then it should be okay. As soon as anybody outside your immediate family sees or hears it, then you have a copyright violation.

>> I don't intend to play the entire songs

Doesn't matter, as long as somebody is reminded of the songs

>> nor do I intend to monetize the video

Doesn't matter, copyright is not about any money you might or might not make.
