Question:
USPS change of address?

I recently submitted a change of address request and was wondering if the USPS will send a confirmation letter to the old address (I do recall that they do send a "welcome kit" to the new address). And also granted the fact that they do send confirmation to the old address, can people still living at the old address do something that could prevent my mail from being forwarded to the new address, like can they send something back to the post office that this request was a mistake?

I believe if you did it online you get an email notification.

Is it possible for someone to cause problems? Of course, but it goes by name, not just address. Hopefully they don't have the same last name as you. That would probably cause problems.

It's called a move verification letter. One is sent too the address you forward from, and one to the address you forward too. It's basically a way of making sure that someone didn't forward your mail for you, either as a prank or for malicious reasons.

The answer to your question is yes. If the people at that address fill it out saying you really didn't forward, you could have a problem. If you put in as an individual, only the person with that first name will be forwarded. Have you received any forwarded mail yet? It will normally have a yellow label stuck to the front of the letter. If you do receive mail from your old address, you can stop worrying. If not contact your local post office.

90% of that stuff is computerized now. The mail is pulled out of the mail stream before it gets to your old address, and is sent to your new address. The old way it would go to your old post office, where it was then sent back to be forwarded.

It's been a while but I don't think they do send anything to the old address after the date of change.

Forward mail is a temp thing for like 2 weeks on Vacation. You want to change address.
