Question:
I got a court summons?

The other day during school, I got a call from an unknown number. They left me a voicemail which I checked after school. The voicemail turned out to be a court summons to a case in which I am the "primary and sole defendant". The guy sounded like he could work for the justice system... there only info given to me in the voicemail was a call back number and a case number to use when calling.
I'm just a high schooler (read:minor). The only offenses I'm guilty of are littering and loitering. Why am I getting a court summons? Am I even old enough to be given a court summons? Maybe they called the wrong number. Also, is it possible the this could have been prank call? If that is the case, calling back isn't exactly the safest idea.
So what should I do? If it is indeed a court summons intended for me, and I ignore the call, can't I be fined or something?

Thanks.

You have to be served personally or consent to be served by mail.

It sounds like a criminal enticement to get you somewhere or at best a prank to me.

A court summons is usually a paper document which is easily verified with the court clerk and is delivered by a sheriff deputy or received in the mail at your valid address directly from the court clerk and calls for you to appear at such and such a date and time at the court premises, an official government building, not some other specious locale nor any dangerous place.

Best procedure: Call the police, tell them about it, and have them listen to the voice mail.

That will get the prankster pulled in for very serious questioning, and will protect others as well as you from repeated similar mischief:

Hi

Was the call back number a Premium number. If it was a court summonz they would put it in writing, by law.

Probably not a prank call (sorry)

You can get easier charges when your a minor

You can be fined if you ignore it

Call back and see if its the same person

Court summons are issued at your place of residence...a constable will come to your house or job or even your school to find you...that's the law...someone is playing with you
