That is exactly my point. We are sitting back taking this crab. They use the war against us. The oil companies are the ones responsible for all the wars in the first place. They were the first to jump in when we were looking for alternatives other than gasoline. (Again to their benefit) However, they have the money to pay big campaigns for the president. The president in return compensate for this. They are bringing our world down. In the summer they are planning, to raise gas to 5.00 a gallon. We need to to something now before we let these greedy men ruin what is left our our sanity.

THE OIL COMPANIES' FAMILIES WILL NOT SUFFER LIKE THE REST OF US. WE NEED TO STAND TALL AND BEGIN TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Lets learn from Brazil. They use corn oil as a fuel.

Business is entitled to make profits. In this case, the game is rigged and the pricing is way too high. Clinton is president, $1.25 per gallon.Bush , an oil man, becomes president. Gas, $3.40 per gallon .

This is not an accident.

The accountants rig the game so that the company can claim nine cents per gallon profit. Only a knucklehead would believe this, really.

The money goes to shareholders and to a large extent the management team.

It's called stockholders. Investments fund the retirements of the majority of Americans.

What's wrong with making a profit? It's not wrong to be profitable. If you owned a successful business, what would be wrong with your profitability? Isn't that why entrepreneurs enter into business? In the hopes of working for financial success? If they choose to incorporate, that's just good business sense. But if a corporation is successful, that's supposed to make me angry? You don't consider the thousands of employees those corporations give jobs to and the services they provide to the public. You don't consider the taxes they pay to the government. There's a bigger picture than the fact that you're jealous of their profits.

I applaud their profits. It helps the economy, the tax base, the employment rate, the provision of health care to those employees, stockholders, and retirement and investment accounts. That's a great thing!

Yeah, how dare a private business try to make profits! Boo! Boo! Sure, we average Joes go to work every day to make money, but that's different because we're not as good at making money as they are! Boooooo!

You do realize that these "profits" go into long-term research, research intended to reduce gasoline consumption? Just curious.

Do we only label business practices greedy when the products they sell are in high demand? Since when is it "bad" for a company to want to maximize its profits. I think most of you are complaining simply because you don't want to pay that much, otherwise you'd be calling out the hundreds of other companies that give you way less bang for your buck. How about trendy coffee shops and boutiques that way overcharge you? Where's the anger? Where's the outrage?

It is not because we don't care it is because we all depend on oil to heat are houses in the winter and to travel around each day i bet a great amount of people who agreed with you also travel in a car everyday if you agree and really wanted to stop this you could just walk. The price is also very high due to supply and demand. If you want oil that is rapidly decreasing you have to pay a lot to get that limited storage.

Something is very wrong, but don't count on anyone doing anything about gasoline prices anytime soon.

In fact, count on gas prices continuing to go up as long as demand around the world grows.

Do yourself a favor and look into means of transportation that reduces your need for gas. Buy a motorcycle or a 4 cylinder engine in your next car like I just did.

Every little bit helps. And it cuts their greedy profits every day.

To answer your top question, yes, I think something is

very wrong with this situation.

The owners & CEO's of these companies are recieving

million dollar salaries & pensions, while their attendants

are working for barely more than minimum wage.

The owners are also getting tax breaks for the little they

contribute to finding ways to clean up the enviroment.

This whole situation is way out whack & is in dire need

of someone's attention who realizes what is really going on.

The next time you vote, vote for someone who will

address this issue. If anyone dares, these people have

very powerful lobbyists.Hopefully, someone will have the

courage.

I think it is pathetic to see what the ceo's earn and what the store employees earn.

without the little people there would be no big people.

BUT , instead of buying beer and cigarettes for most of your life , if you had bought exxon shares,, the price of gas wouldn't bother you near as much.

.

Really they should share,,they are not playing fair,,,but dad told me the fair is in dallas ,comes once a year

get over it

Staggering...........

It's not just Gas, it's electricity, Water, Council rates, they continue to go up while the service offered gets worse, with so much competition these days, we should be having a price war. ie. massive reductions.

What are they doing with the money?

They are paying their shareholders huge dividends

What are they not doing?

Improving the infrastructure and level of service

What are we doing?

Moaning about it to one another while continuing to use all these necessities. They've got us over a barrell

(pun intended - oil)

ps. $5 a gallon? you should try living in the UK its almost $10 a gallon

Did you bother to look and see how much they had to spend to make that much? Or how much they pay in taxes? What percentage is obscene to you? Before you answer remember a business is started with the intent to make a profit anyone that believes otherwise isn't likely to succeed.

A question to you. Why can American corporations make record profits, but workers don't get a fair share? Record bankruptcy's, forclosures, lost health insurance, dental and retirement. Amswer: because we have allowed this and have turned away from God.

It's called supply and demand. There isn't that much supply and it's under heavy demand. Buy an introductory book on economics and look it up.

Oil industry lobbyists and their financial contributions to PAC's. The only people who care are the people NOT getting the money and they have no power.
2007-04-24 22:35:40 UTC
Oil companies earn about nine cents profit per gallon of gas sold. In my state, forty cents of every gallon is TAXES. So who's ripping us off??

most people think it wrong but what are we to do? boycott gas? good luck with that.....if i owned a company that could pretty much charge whatever i want then i would be in heaven

Only the supporters of the GOP think there is nothing wrong with that.
