I am currently homeless and am a 22 year old college student. Back in may, I ended up homeless because I was kicked out of my house by my mentally ill parents who have been emotionally abusing me my entire life. I discovered that they had an abusive past and was lied to my entire life. They kept a $2300 savings bond away from me and said that I couldn't withdraw it just to find out that it was in my name and they had lied to me because they planned on spending it for themselves. Also, I was living out of my car the day that I got kicked out of the house on this college campus and only had 69 cents in my pocket. It was horrible. I ended up having to seek help from my psychiatrist as well as other counselors on campus. I contacted the financial aid office the very day that I was kicked out and was lied to by my parents. They said that I couldn't declare myself independent to get the help I so desperately needed because I would no longer be on their health insurance just to discover that they had lied. I by law am to be covered by my parents until I turn 26. That's the law. So my parents submitted their financial information and they have a very good salary. However, they are not willing to help me at all. They allowed me to starve in my room because I didn't listen to them on the phone like a child. The only money that I had was what was on the credit card that they had supplied me with. They made my summer miserable. The person on the phone with financial aid said that even after I sent a doctor's note that clearly explained the situation that I didn't have enough proof. She even went as far as to say that I wouldn't receive her help because she didn't feel like my situation was good enough to warrant a dependency override even after having sent her the proof to have her say that. The dependency override clearly states that my circumstance is very acceptable. So is this discrimination? I have adhd, aspergers, anxiety, depression, & ocd. These are all DOCUMENTED. Is this discrimination?
