Its awful, why does this happen. People hit pedestrians and don't stop, it an epidemic where I live out here in Los Angeles. So many people are maimed or killed from these drivers but why don't they stop?

if south florida [where i am] is any guide, about 1/3rd of the vehicles that cause accidents do not have insurance, even though insurance is required by law. i'd be unsurprised to discover that LA is the same or even worse.

Hit and run incidents are on the raise, especially in California. Probably many reasons as answered already, and people are stressed and in a hurry while driving, no excuse, but there is also more cars on the road and more people not getting enough sleep for various reasons. Some of these are combinations of overwork or frustration with no job, drinking, drugs, staying out late getting emotionally upset at things going on in their lives. There is also a raise in incidents of cars plowing into homes or other buildings. Some of these are in the early hours of the morning or late at night when these drivers should be at home sleeping instead of out carousing around in their vehicles.

People are drunk, people don't have a drivers license, people don't want to be sued, people just panic and don't realize what just happened, people may be on drugs and are holding and don't wanna go to jail.
