Will a caution for speeding show on an enhanced CRB check?

I've read loads of different forums that all seem to have conflicting and confusing information about this, and am really hoping someone can answer this for definite. I am applying to be a primary school teacher and received a caution (today :-/) for speeding. No points or fine, but they took my details and made it clear that the caution would be recorded on 'a database' which from what I have read I presume is the PNC, which is where I understand the CRB check.
As I will be working with children it will be an enhanced CRB check (showing 'everything') but certain things I have read suggest that the CRB are able to choose whether or not to put things into each disclosure dependent on whether the offence is relevant to the job applied for.
Lastly, and most importantly, all my applications say, under the heading Criminal Convictions: 'Do you have a conviction which is not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974?' - does this include my caution? I understand only a court can convict a person of anything, and therefore a roadside caution is not a conviction.
I don't want to write on an application form that I have an unspent criminal conviction if I actually don't!

The caution is not a conviction. For this reason, you don't have to mention it on the form. Even if it were to come to light on an enhanced CRB, it would make no difference to your application. Many pillars of society have convictions for speeding, including members of the Royal Family and (who knows?) the people scrutinising your application!

First - it does not matter whether it shows up on a CRB check or not - the fact that any item appears on a CRB check is not a reason why you should not get the job, your prospective employers will consider what the offence is - things like speeding (as long as the speed was not excessive - which would show a reckless streak) for instance will be ignored as it was not an offence specifically against children.



Second - you never went to court so you do not have a conviction (spent or otherwise) so there is no need to mention it on your application.

What happened? Did you get done for speeding and get a fine? Did you go to the police station or just done at the side of the road. It is highly unusual for you to get a 'caution' for speeding, unless it was just a 'words of advice'. To receive a caution you must go to the station and an officer usually Inspector rank will 'caution' you.

If it has gone onto PNC, yes a real 'caution' is a conviction, it would show up on a CRB check, but doubtful if it were considered against you for a teaching job.

You could always ring the officer and ask, or phone the police force in whose area you live and ask for the Data Protection or Information Assurance dept they will be able to tell you exactly.

On the first point. Cautions do show up on an enhanced disclosure, And the criminal records bureau (CRB) shouldn't be picking and choosing what they put on there or not. All formal warnings are shown.

And on your final point, A caution is not a conviction. To be convicted of any crime you must stand trial.

Finally, even spent convictions appear on an enhanced disclosure anyway.

Don't worry about a speeding fine, and as for a caution it means they were unable to prove it.



Don't worry they are more interested in if you absconded with the club funds, or burgled the neighbourhood.

it is only a speeding caution, just put it on your application forms it will not stop you from being employed as a teacher, but if you do not inform then the employers may think you are not a very honest person?

No



motoring offences don't count, it's more likely to include offences against children and young adults that would prevenrt you getting your job, any crimes of violence, etc
