ok so basically it is a butterfly knife
and i live in california

from what i understand it is illegal because it can be opened on handed and because it is a gravity knife

but what if it is like this?

it CAN'T be flipped open
and the handles are really rigid

It probably is. In my opinion outlawing a knife because it can be quickly opened is stupid. However, that is my opinion (one that our gov't doesn't care about haha).

Many knives can be opened with one hand like the Spyderco and they are legal if they have no spring to open them and the blade is just under 4". Butterfly knives are the slowest opening and just for showoffs.

If you have a butterfly knife it is illegal.
