If someone is passing police reports and court records around the community, to your friends and family in an effort to slander your reputation is it puishable by law? Is this a form of harrassment? Stalking? Due to the fact that they call the police daily to find out any information they can, drive by my home constantly, call my work place, drive by my work place, sit outside my work place, sit outside my place of residence, etc. It has caused me great emotional distress and worry. If anyone has had experience with sort of thing I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Those are public records so they can pass them around if they want. If the police records are fake, then it could be slander if it cost you money. But if they are real police reports and court records then there is nothing illegal about it. The part about calling constantly and sitting outside your workplace could be stalking. You'd need to talk to a lawyer or the police about that.

all I know is police reports and court records (unless it was when you were under age and they were sealed) are public, anyone can get them, any employer could ask for a criminal check on you.

I know there are bullying laws that are new. But unless you lose a job (and they specifically say it was something you did in the past "because" it was brought to their attention, and you had a witness with you when they said that to you) because of the bullying or slander I'd think the law would not stand in your favor. You didn't say what the court records or reports were about...I mean like if it was a bankruptcy or something that went thru small claims court or if your home was foreclosed on then that's nothing to worry about. If it was some felony offense you didn't tell your boss about even if you did the time then that might be a resulting problem for you. If you told them and it was a minor offense yet they still hired you or they know about it then this whole mess will go away when the someone passing the information see it doesn't do anything for them. I'd be wondering why though they're doing this to you.

Anything you want to prove in court you'd need darned good proof, something on paper, a witness, a picture or video of them driving by your home along with the time noted, and a witness that they are calling your workplace, or sitting outside (surely your employer has cameras that would pick up the fact that their car is sitting out there). Perhaps your worry is an emotional one. If you know their names, have their license plate you can make a complaint to the police department. But document what they are doing.

Yes there are laws against that. Unfortunately, if you have a criminal record that warrants that activity and the only people who could do something about it are the police, nothing usually would be done. It's not slander if the record is true. It's only information shall not be used to retaliate against the registrants, their families, or their employers in any way. Vandalism, verbal or written threats of harm are illegal and will result in arrest and prosecution.

Basically speaking, sex offenders are the only people that tend to have such a problem. If your not on the sex offender registry, you probably need to get away from these people. Move or live a life where people don't know you. The country is full of probation, paroles, ex-cons, soon to be cons, that it's rather unusual for some one to have such an intense problem

Unless the records are sealed, they are public records and they can pass them around. And slander (or in this case, libel, since it's in writing) requires that the statements are untrue. Since it's part of the official record, then it's not libel or slander.

It's not harassment because it isn't false and it isn't threatening. Nor is it stalking to show the records.

If they are calling the police daily, that's harassing the police, not you.

You can try to get a restraining order.

You ask:If someone is passing police reports and court records around the community, to your friends and family in an effort to slander your reputation is it puishable by law?

Especially how did they get these records legally.

It's not slander if it is true! Slander is when someone is spreading lies about you. Public police and court records aren't lies.

It might be a form of harassment. For that, you will have to talk to a lawyer. If they aren't threatening your life, it is a case for civil court, not for the police.

One time i became attempting to be a solid Samaritan by utilising asking a query so i could desire to grant Ompelley a very good answer, and that i've got been given a VN, for insulting different individuals. It became style of bittersweet, because of fact thats the 1st time I had ever gotten a VN for that reason!

It's not slander if it's true. However, it is harassment if there is no other intention other then to make your life miserable.

that is not illegal at all.

in fact police (records that have been released), and court records are public record.
