It's a scam unfortunately. For legitimate sweepstakes you can enter by purchasing a sweepstakes newsletter like Sweeping America or Sweep Sheet (can do a search online for them) or you can even enter ones online at www.online-sweepstakes.com

The fact that he has your real name and home address, you DO NOT want to play him at his own game. That only works if it's an email scammer and your email address does not contain your real name - then you can scambait them. But these are not lone individuals conducting these check scams - they are criminal gangs and you do not want to mess with them when they know where you live. These money laundering scams are usually run by the Russian or Nigerian mafia and they are brutal. All you can do is tell him you deposited the check and were on your way to Western Union when your bank called to tell you there was a problem with the check and you needed to come back. Say you went back and the police were there, who took you into the station for questioning. Say that you gave the police his name and email and showed them the emails that this was a real job offer, and that he has to go to the police station when he's back in the US to sort everything out. Say you still want the job but you will only take cash when you appear at the job, nothing else, as you are now under investigation for bank fraud and your account has been temporarily frozen until he goes to the police and settles this matter. But don't go beyond that since they do know where you live and your real name. Reporting this to the FBI is the best way to get back at them.

One of the oldest scams in the book. Probably coming from Nigeria. You will be asked to forward a bunch of money for certificates, forms, and all kinds of made up required documents. As long as you keep sending the money they will keep sending you more required documents that cost. This will go on until you are broke.

You will also get a lot of e-mails from other persons or so called government officials. They are all the same person.

Check out this site as it has all the answers plus shows how fun and funny it is to turn the tables on the scammers. Make sure you check out the photos section on the site.

Trust me, this is a HUGE scam!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to, forward the email to your Computer Crimes Division of your local FBI Field office. I did, to the one in Milwaukee. DO NOT REPLY WITH ANY INFORMATION AT ALL!!!!! No sensitive info should be given out, please!!!! These people work very hard to elaborate legitimate-looking emails and notifications in an attempt to get some naive person to respond with account numbers, employer's info, telephone numbers, addresses, and so on. All they need is small bits of info to get your more sensitive information. I got a very official-looking email once from Pay-Pal. I called Pay-Pal, and found out, IT WAS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To get my account information. BE VERY VERY WARY when you see these emails. DO NOT RESPOND or REPLY with information at all!!!! Simply delete them if you want, or call your local FBI Field office. I hope that this helps you. Be careful, and good luck!!!
