Hello,
I'm very ashamed for this but I lied about having a high school diploma, now they are running a background check. I start at the new job on Monday. Today was my last day with my current employer and I'm scared I'll be jobless. I'm also a little confused because although they are currently running my background (hireright third party) the owner of the business asked me to place my 2 week notice before the background even began. I'm scared to start work on Monday & my background to come back and they find out I didn't graduate.

Relax. They may have found you suitable, since the boss asked you to give your two week notice to your current employer.

You could always tell your new boss that you fully intend to get your high school diploma once your financial situation stabilizes.

Once employed, make an effort to get that High school diploma, even if it means night school.

Good luck with your new job.

Background check is looking for criminal history, not a high school diploma. The employer is usually the one that asks to see any sort of diplomas or degrees you say you have.

You will only be screwed if they ask you to produce a diploma and you do not have one

Normally a background check is looking at your criminal convictions, not whether or not you graduated from high school

Tell them you were homeschooled, problem solved. There are no "offiicial" diplomas if you are homeschooled, info here. You can even buy one

BG check is a criminal check. You may get lucky and they won't try and verify your degree, which is a separate process.

Then admit it now. They'll be more impressed with you having the courage to admit the truth than with leaving them to find out themselves.
