i received a conditional discharge (at Magistrates court) when I got caught shoplifting with friends. It’s my first and only offense. Would it still come up in background checks? Its been over 4 years now.
I’m trying to become a nursery assistant and we’ve submitted our DBS,I was told that a conditional discharge is not a Conviction?

Yes. A conditional discharge is a sentence, and to get a sentence, you must have been convicted, or what is there to sentence you for? Whoever told you a conditional discharge is not a conviction is correct, because it's a sentence, but you must have been convicted of something to get it.
The court convicted you of theft, either because you pleaded guilty or after a trial, so it had to sentence you to a punishment, and its chosen punishment was a conditional discharge.
As this was not a custodial sentence, and you have no other convictions, it is subject to filtering. If you were under 18 at the time, it will be filtered after 5 1/2 years. If you were over 18, it will be filtered after 11 years.
So for now it will appear on any DBS disclosure. But eventually, it will not.

It will show on an Enhanced DBS. You did commit a crime.

Yes, it would remain on your record for life. You pleaded guilty at Magistrates court and that is a CONVICTION.

yup, it's on record for life. Might affect your chance of becoming a nurse.
