Your kid shouldn't have been suspended. A freaking 2 inch knife!? What could he possibly do with that?

Funny - you should be lecturing your child on how a knife of any kind, rules or not, is not appropriate for school, that he is to stay suspended, and that if he ever does it again - you'll remove his video games and ground his Butt.

Even a ball point pen is considered a weapon in some circumstances - and a 2" knife wouldn't go over so well if stuck in someone's eye.

Your kid was wrong and you are wrong for trying to defend him; if he gets away with it, with your blessing, next time maybe he'll bring something more substantial to the table. Do the right thing.

A weapon is a weapon no matter how big or how small. Maybe a talk with your child would help. You could say you are sorry you did not speak to him before this happened. Just ask him to ask you first before taking anything like that to school. A two inch knife stabbed in an arm, or neck can cause death from bleed out.

A knife is a weapon, no matter what you may think or use it for. If someone else had that knife and used on your son, no matter how slight the injury, would you feel the same. Yes, your son might never use it that way, but other people do not know that for sure, so schools have this zero tolerance policy.

I have to agree with the other answers. I stay in Texas and recently 2 different boys in two completely different schools were stabbed. What if another kid was to find the knife or forbid someone chose to mess with your son while he had it. Like I tell my kids, sorry does not fix EVERYTHING! Those boys that did the stabbing were elementary children so don't think it can't happen to yours. The victims parents of the Columbine shooting felt the same way. Start thinking as a parent not a child!

Make no mistake: anything that can be used as a weapon against another person is prohibited in schools, so the school has had the right to give out this suspension. We've had kids who got suspended for butter knives. The point is that there is absolutely no exception to this rule and as parents we do have to make sure that our children do know this. Scissors, knives, guns, butter knives, I also believe regular forks(they use plastic in school cafeterias), any large object that can be used to bash another, and of course, all types of guns--even toy guns, are not permitted in schools.

I can not see any good reason why anyone would need to take a blade to school. There are no logical reasons for it at all no matter how long or how big or whether it is locked or not. Children should not bring knives to school. And personally I think you are doing him a wrong by defending him when he was wrong to do it.

what was your son bringing a knife to school for anyway? Are you stupid? You wouldn't want some other kid coming to school with a knife and possibly being a threat to YOUR kid would you?

he still could have shanked someone with it.
