I've always wondered if all that fanfiction out there is illegal. I mean, not claiming the anime character (or any other charaters) and such as your own, as long if you give credit to the creators who made the original series...is is illegal or legal? O_o

Even if you don't give credit to the author, I don't think fan fiction is illegal. People will assume, especially if it is a well know piece of fiction, that you obviously didn't make up the charcters. But if say you wanted to go out and like actually publish your story and use the same characters and stuff that might be considered plagiarism (unless you publish it as fanfiction, but I never heard of a fanfiction being published).

There are some authors who request human beings do not submit fanfiction. If thats the case then it is going to be respected. as long as funds isn't being made out of it maximum television/action picture/authors do not techniques because of the fact it convey a concentration element to their artwork. do exactly not assume an author(who made the sequence and international, owns the characters,) to study it and bypass ga ga, you're so solid. Use disclaimers to be on the secure element.

This is an intellectual property question. Depends on the character, the character's owner and the how the fan uses character. For instance, a restaurateur in Vancouver opened a restaurant called De Niro's and filled it with photos of her idol. De Niro came to town and told her to shut it down or he'd sue for the unauthorized use of his image. See http://www.wipo.int/wipo_magazine/en/2007/06/article_0004.html. She removed the photos and changed the name.
