Should the police be allowed to arrest you at work?

The police came to my work and arrested me for an assault. They went to my house but I was in work so they came there. I don't think it was right as everybody saw me getting arrested. And they handcuffed me behind my back for no reason as I would have gone with them without giving any trouble.
I would have gone myself if I knew they wanted to arrest me. Did they really need to come to my work?

Sure, the police have every right to arrest you at work A certain level of embarrassment is good for the person getting arrested. Maybe he won't break the law any more.

I know people really trying to change who can't keep loosing jobs because of this practice. They have told the boss when hired of their history, yes. But it became an issue when it made a scene and police kept coming around to check on them for parole or house arrest. I think they should of asked first if you are willing to come down to the station. if you say yes like a mature adult then i don't think you should be hand cuffed. If someone is not willing to go to the police station then i think they have the right to be handcuffed. Yes there is a law but at the same time respect goes both ways and it seems like to me you weren't doing anything harmful to be pulled out of work and then taken to the police station.

One advantage of arresting someone at work is that at least some workers will not want anyone to see them making a scene - so they won't. That makes it safer for the police, for the arrestee and for bystanders.
And some people, if asked to turn themselves in, will flee. So I understand not asking.
I think the police should be able to arrest people wherever they find them. There are a lot of factors to consider, and sometimes work is the best of the available options.

I see no reason for making a scene for either the one being arrested or the business where they work if they are willing to go peacefully. I know people really trying to change who can't keep loosing jobs because of this practice. They have told the boss when hired of their history, yes. But it became an issue when it made a scene and police kept coming around to check on them for parole or house arrest..

I think it should depend on the charge. Anything domestic related should not humiliate a person considering that many domestic violence crimes cases get dropped due to the fact that the victim drop the charges. I am a state attorney for domestic violence crimes and I never arrest the person on their job unless it is absolutely necessary. Many times people pressure me to pick up their spouse and I can tell that they not really concerned or hurt about the crime committed but instead they just wanna see the person in jail for cheating on them. People don't get arrested for cheating so instead their spouse lie. Also, many times the couple have s long history of domestic violence which shows that they are just playing and destroying each other lives. So in some cases, the person shouldn't be humiliated because they are innocent until proven guilty. Not guilty until proven innocent.

In my opinion, if you are wrong and assaulted then why the police get worried that not to arrest you at work and as you mentioned they already went to your home then they can come in your office to arrest you. If you feel embarrassed then why don't you go police station after doing illegal things.

I am a manager at a facility and similar things have happened. A police officer was looking for one of my employees and i asked the officer if he'd mind if I bring the employee to them at a designated area I picked. I then went to call the employee to that office and the officer served the employee. no one saw what transpired and it was discrete.
Something to that nature could have been done, but its solely on the discretion of the arresting office and if your place of employment is considered public. in either case... they might have had an arrest warrant. Scott B is correct, don't break the law, minor violations could end you up in prison

I think it depends. If you work in a secluded office space where you don't deal directly with people, then I'm ok with that. I do take issue when employees are arrested in front of customers. It disrupts the flow of operation, the same can be said in a secluded office space but strangers make it worse.
There are instances where the individual is only available through work.

Yes they had every right to arrest you. They know some people stay away from their homes to avoid being arrested so they check everywhere possible to find you. But if your in the hospital being treated they cant just take you until they discharge you from the hospital. But they probably would have somebody hang around the hospital babysitting you till they discharge you so you dont sneak away and go into hiding. Also it doesnt matter if everybody sees you being arrested and they are cuffing you probably for their own safety since you said they are arresting you they cant have you being able to move freely while they transport you to where ever they were gonna take you to.

in my opinion i think it really depends on how bad the assault is. But at the same time i think there should be a level of respect no matter wether if there cops they still have the same rights as us all. I think cops should have a level of respect no matter how big or small the assault was. I think they should of asked first if you are willing to come down to the station. if you say yes like a mature adult then i don't think you should be hand cuffed. If someone is not willing to go to the police station then i think they have the right to be handcuffed. yes Because they is where they can find you, if you are not at home. If you have a warrant out on you, you are fair game for any officer to arrest you, when they run you on the NCIC computer. (Like at a traffic stop). Cops can not arrest you if you are in a mental ward or at the hospital. But they can put a "babysitter" to guard you until you are medically released from the hospital. They will take you to jail then. The mental hospital will call the cops to pick you up and you will be taken to jail.
It is sop for every prisoner to be handcuff for officer's safety and so you will not take off (escape). Assault is a violent crime to be arrested for.
Working at LMDC , inmates knew what was going on in their case and their lives if they had any outstanding warrants out there the court system than the clerks did.

Of course they should. OK, so you're a mass murderer and they want to arrest you, but you're at work and slip out the back door and get away.
Grow up. You assaulted someone. So you got arrested. If you don't want to get arrested don't behave like an ar5e.

Of course they can arrest you at work. They can arrest you anywhere at any time. They know a lot of criminals stay away from their homes to try and avoid and arrest so work is one place they can often find them
If you were arrested for assault that means you are considered a violent criminal and would always be handcuffed.

Don't break the law if you can't figure out how to do it right and not get caught. If you commit a crime and get caught, you should be arrested anywhere the police can find you at.

They picked you up on a warrant, correct? Their job is to hook you up, not worry about your standing in the community. Everyone gets cuffed behind the back. That's protocol. They have no idea who you are or what you're capable of. After all, you're being picked up on an assault charge. Officer safety comes first. Follow instructions, go quietly, prove your innocence in court.

You broke the law, they should be allowed to arrest you anywhere. If you don't want your coworkers to see you get arrested, don't break the law.
And cops don't just call you up and say "Come to the station, we need to arrest you."

If you assaulted someone you should have known that person would turn you in to the police since assaulting someone is illegal. So you should have stayed there and waited for the police to arrive, or turn yourself in at that time. You caused the embarrassment on yourself.

Should? they have the right and duty to get you into custody as soon as practical- especially if you're a danger to public. Handcuffs for someone charged with assault? normal safety issue for them, it isn't like a failure to pay child support, fail to pay traffic ticket civil suit, assault is a criminal court charge.

assault is a major felony. the police have to assume you will try to flee. considering the degree of your crime, this was necessary. but when you commit a crime, you don't get to choose what happens, nor do you have the right to.
