My son is in jail, he tells me that he is not warm enough. He says it cold and that there is no heat.

it's heartwarming how these @holes just assume your son is some kind of hardened criminal, so much for humane treatment and brotherly love.

as for the jail, unfortunately much like hospitals and office buildings they are often kept cooler then is comfortable because one, they are usuall large open spaces which are hard to keep heated and two, the tightwads in charge often are stingy and scrooge like with the "coal" as it were.

that said, they do have to maintain a level of heat sufficient to prevent illness, just there is a bit of space between cozy and non life threatening.

All these people's answers are so damn discouraging esther but true. From my brother being in jail I would suggest instead of looking at it from a negative light that if you haven't already sent a care package to him for christmas, you migh want to. I use walkenhorsts but I don't know if they send care packages to inmates outside of california. Send him some long john's and sweatshirts and stuff because not to be discouraging but in reality those c/o s don't give a **** about the inmates and treat them more like animals then human beings who have made a mistake. And at night depending on where he is located he could suffer mild or moderate hypothermia and die! It's easier at night because the sun is not out and I assume like most he sleeps at night which makes it easier for hypothermia to creep up on you and depending on how cold it is severe hypothermia can set in within 30 minutes. Or if you send him money, depending on what the doc of that state carries, he might be able to buy some clothes at the commissary but it all depends. People unfortunately tend not be forgiving of criminals or inmates but according to the Biblem, Jesus came here to save those who were lost or who are considerered low lifes. Have you heard of the Bildeberg group. Go to google search when you have time and look at an article or two. The information will amaze you! And please, pay the information forward!

Specifically, what temperatures exist where your son is quartered? "Warm enough" is a very subjective judgment. (personally, if it is 55 degrees I am comfortable) If you provide accurate data, supporting facts you will have a question that could be answered.

A good story has the elements of Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How explained. that is (or used to be) the basis for Journalistic Reporting. (those elements and the principle of "objectivity, not to mention that other thing, Truth).

In any case, I will hazard a guess that your son will live through the experience. We all pray he will learn from the experience!

He has the right to food, shelter, clothing, and reasonable access to medical care. He doesn't have the right to be completely comfortable - and jails tend to be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

I know, as his mother, this is not what you want to hear, but jails and prisons are not really designed to make the inmates glad to be there. But if he is there for any length of time, he will get used to the colder temperatures.

Jail is not meant to be comfortable. They may not have the heat turned up to a level that he deems comfortable but I am certain they have heat on. Your son is in jail, that is a punishment, he is being punished for a crime he commited, it is not meant to be comfy! But I am certain that the guards would not want to work in a completely unheated facility, so relax, he has heat, he's simply uncomfortable, good!

hopefully he will learn prison is not a hotel room

they are just required to keep the minumum requirments like 60 deg during the day and 55 at night

They aren't required to keep him comfortable. Just warm enough that it isn't life threatening.

It's not meant to be a vacation. A sustainable environment is far more than deserving.

Awww..... he's uncomfortable in jail?? That sucks. He probably should have thought of that....before he committed a CRIME.
