Question:
I was issued a traffic ticket fine AFTER the official due date. Do I still have to pay?

I received a final charge for a traffic fine in the mail today on the 13th. However, the due date for the fine payment is listed as August 7th. To make matters worse, the letter issuing that same fine is dated for the 8th AND the envelope it was mailed in is stamped on the 9th.

Do I have to pay for that fine even though the letter was dated and submitted AFTER the listed due date? Would I still be penalized in anyway for THEIR mishap?

I even called them Friday (the 10th) to find out why I hadnt received anything and the rep claimed she wasn t sure. I m sure they won t put me at fault, but you never know how these courts work.

Thanks in advance!

You owe the fine, but not any late penalty for not paying by a date that is before the date the notice was mailed. Pay the fine immediately, because that is NOT going away, and keep everything in case they try to add a penalty later.

That is irrelevant. Yes, you still have to pay.

You have to go to court and talk to the judge about this, in person. Conversations on the phone have ZERO effect on your fine. The judge might, or might not, allow the police to issue a new notice with proper dates.

1. You LIED about at least one of the dates.

2. Even if you received the citation late, that is ONLY a defense against additional fine for not handling the issue on time. It IS NOT a defense against the original charge.

Update: Based on your details, the letter states you license was SUSPENDED on the 8th for failing to appear in court or pay the ticket by the 7th for the ticket you were handed by the officer that pulled you over at the time of the offense.

Go to the court with the envelope and papers and fix it or you will get suspended or have a warrant for an unpaid ticket.

Yes, you will have to pay the fine or take the matter to traffic court. Another option would be to ignore the matter but I doubt that would help at all.
