Court summons for former resident, what to do with paperwork?

I have lived at my current residence since July and when I went outside found a court summons stuck to my front door from sometime earlier today. It lists two people I do not know and my address. It is a small claims case for the parents of a local student refusing to pay for school related fees. I think they might be using my address for there child to go to school. How should I handle the situation? Should I contact the school board? What to do with the court summons?

i find this interesting because i beleive a court summons is usually hand delivered to the persons or persons mentioned in the summons, it is not to be mailed or just stuck in a door, the person has to say they are that person and the summons is then handed over..like certified mail there has to be proof the person received it, can't be given to anyone else...i'd say ignore it, not your problem it can't get you in any trouble, but if you want to go out of your way you can contact the court clerk at the county court house an advise them of your discovery. your choice..but not your problem

Return the Summons to your local Sheriffs Office and explain that the person(s) do not reside at this address...Do not open or tamper with the summons otherwise known as a subpoena to appear. Everything else is between them, the school and the court system. If they do not reside there then you should notify the school and bring proof that that you are the sole person/tenant of that address.

You should take the summons back to the court from which it was issued. It should NEVER have been placed on your door. That alone can get a case dismissed. However, the court needs to know that the summons was not received & needs to know that the person delivering the papers is not competent to act in that capacity.

Y0u might try calling the court and letting them know. That won't help the people named in the summons.

I would send it back to the attorney named on the summons or to the court telling them that person does not live where you do.

If it doesn't have your name on it, you don't have to do anything. Toss it. You have no duty to report anything to a school board or the court - this is a waste of your time. It's their issue, let THEM find their defendants.
