Question:
I developed an Android APP for my employer, the APP is mine or it is of my employer?

I have been developing an Android APP. My job/boss asked me to do it for a client. I have been working several days/months on this. They just gave me a general and poor idea of what they want.
So basically I took the client idea and made it a better and understandable idea.
I developed everything. No one has help me and it is a really complex APP. I have been working several hours on this without getting paid. (They just pay me 40 hours a week, but on my daily routine, I'm working in another project and I just have a few hours to work on this during my 8 hours routine, so I have been working a lot in the APP in my house without getting paid ).

Soon I will be leaving my job. I don't want to share my code because I have been really working very hard.

Do I have to shared my code? I know the final product (the Android APP is theirs) but I don't want to share my code.

Is there any legal thing that protect me or I have to share the code too with my employer? It is not fair since most of the app I have develop it in my home without getting paid.

They paid you to write the code. You could have refused to work the extra hours, but you didn't.

The app belongs to them.

It belongs to the employer, and that INCLUDES the code. They paid you to do the work. Would you have written this App without them asking you to? No. So don't try to pretend that this was all your own brilliant idea and they are holding you back or something. In reality YOU know they are the only reason you wrote the app.

Seriously, you don't know what an app could do to your life if it gets hit ? Either share everything that you're doing (which is the right thing to do) or just make it your app and publish (since you don't get paid for what you're doing) :) Eagerly waiting for the app . Do inform about me about the app when its released :) Cheers !

Whoever trademarks the app idea is the owner of that app, forever.

So--- trademark it!! Then it will be yours, no question.

Also, if they haven't paid you what you ask, in full then it will never be theirs. Dont give in! & good luck!

It belongs to your employer because they are the ones who are paying to do it.
