Question:
Is there a law prohibiting the sale of super glue to minors?

I needed super glue to finish a school project, so I went to a local store to buy some. Turns out, they wouldn't sell it to me because I was under eighteen years old. I asked them why, and they replied by saying that it was the law. (For reference, I live in CA). Can anyone please explain this to me. Also, is there an alternative to bonding rubber and wood, without using super glue. Thanks.

Penal Code section 380 prohibits selling or distributing any uncertified substance containing toluene to a minor. Not only is it a criminal offense, but a person doing so can also lose his business license. Super Glue contains toluene. This is to hinder huffing (glue sniffing) by minors. You might check at a hobby shop or hardware store for a substitute or lawful toluene containing glue (the State Deparrtment of Health Services can certify glues as having been made useless for abuse by smelling bad or causing sneezing).

I don't think epoxy will help you, I believe it contains toluene as well.

It could be a local ordinance. I know my town won't sell spray paint or cold remedies (used to make meth) to minors. I have heard of bans on the kind of glue that can be sniffed. I never heard of anyone getting high on crazy glue, but maybe that's it. Ask an adult to get it for you, since if they ban super glue, they probably ban other strong epoxies as well.

Generally, there is not a "sniffing" issue with CA glues. However, CA is notorious for mischief (e.g. placing it in locks), so it is entirely possible in a given jurisdiction that, a law may prohibit it's sale to minors.

You might want to try a two-part expoxy instead.

just call your parents and ask them to grab some one the way home.

i dunno about that law though, i know in MA they won't sell spray paint to minors.....i'm sure they have some stupid reason for it.
