Question:
What can happen if you get sued for slander?
2015-07-20 10:26:06 UTC
My mother has seizures and her doctor (as well as her staff) has been deliberately putting off sending in a prescription for my mom's seizure medicine. She has been without it for 10 days now and the staff at the Dr. Office keeps getting more and more snippy with my mom. I finally had enough and I called them myself and cussed them out. After I hung up my mom told me they could get me for slander which I really don't care because I can get them for malpractice and putting a patients life at risk.

However, if they did sue me for slander (which I doubt) then what all would end up happening? I never made any racist remarks but I used the F-word and called the doctor a *****. And I'm sure they have it on recording so yeah, like I said, if they did sue for slander what would happen?

1) That's not slander. Slander is when you lie about someone publicly with the intent to damage them. Swearing at someone is just childish, not illegal.

2) Slander doesn't mean "Racist" or deal with "cussing". stop being dumb.

3) No you can't sue for Malpractice, you don't even understand Slander, you wouldn't be able to put together a Malpractice lawsuit. You certainly can't put one together for your mother, that would be up to her to do. You also can't "get them" for putting a patients life at risk.

4). If your purpose was to get your mom her pills, everything you did was the exact opposite of that. Although they can't sue you for slander, they can drop her as a patient, which would require her to go to a new doctor, get examined and hope that they agree with the diagnosis and will prescribe the medication she wants/needs.

What you did is not slander.

Slander means you told a third party (not the person you are "slandering") a factually untrue statement. Swearing at somebody is not slander, nor is it something you can otherwise be sued for.

Tell mom she'll probably have to start looking for a new physician. She can expect a letter in the mail informing her of that fact shortly.

Next time let mommy handle her own problems.

Name-calling is not slander, and is not illegal. You can call someone anything you want.

Slander is when you make oral statements to others about someone that you know to be false.

Telling somebody how you feel about them is not slander. Slander is public telling lies about somebody else (to other people). Even using racist remarks and the f word is not illegal, as long as you didn't threaten physical harm. I'd blow it off, but really they shouldn't be talking to you about someone else's medical information.

" I finally had enough and I called them myself and cussed them out. "

Oh yes idiot that will get her meds. She is a grown woman and you have not say so into even calling with HIPPA regulations. There is a reason they will not fill her prescription want to tell us why? Are you so involved because her meds are how you make extra money?

You won't get sued. They suffered no damages, so there is nothing to sue FOR.

Nothing you described is either slander or malpractice. They can't "get" you, nor you, them.

I'd suggest that your mother see another physician.

Then you'd owe money. It was NONE of your business to discuss (or swear) the doctor's relationship with your mother. You did, and you shouldn't have. Now you'll find out how much you shouldn't have.

Cussing someone out is not slander.

Now that mom is no longer a patient there, she would be wise to find another doctor and ensure her idiot kid stays out of her affairs.
